The Hawaiian Word of the Day is Kapua. The Hawaiian name for what is now known as San Souci Beach, Kapua is the sandy stretch of shore between the Waikiki Natatorium and the New Otani Beach Hotel. In 1902, the very first telegraphic link between Hawai’i and the continental United States was established by a cable run through the channel fronting Kapua beach. While telegraphic communication was largely abandoned in the 50s, the remnants of this cable still lie on the ocean floor.
